Lightsaber Duel

We bought a couple of toy lightsabers and decided to record ourselves having a duel in the living room. After we were done, I used Sony Vegas to add in the video and audio special effects. I think it turned out pretty damn good considering I did it on a personal computer at home. Alex thought it was pretty cool and wants to make more, but it's a pain in the ass and very time consuming. This short video literally took about 12 hours to make, spread out over several weeks of course. You have to painstakingly edit almost every frame (there are 30 frames each second).

Alex's Adenotonsillectomy

Alex finally got his tonsils and adenoids taken out. He’s been choking on them since about January. We took him to the doctor back in early February for sleep apnea. They decided to spend 3 months treating non-existent allergies before they finally gave in and referred him to a clinic that does sleep studies. The entire process from the first doctor’s visit to the day he had the surgery took nearly 6 months. That’s Navy medicine for you. I’m not knocking the quality of care, I’m just wondering why it takes so incredibly long to fix a fairly obvious problem. In the video, you can see Alex struggling to breathe at night. He’s on his stomach in the video, so it’s not that bad. He couldn’t breathe at all when laying on his back. After they gave him the midazolam (silly juice), I had to break out the video camera. Alex is silly enough in his normal state, so this was pretty funny to watch. He cried a little bit when coming out of the anesthesia, but was fine after that.

Tiny Swimming Pool

We decided to play outside in the backyard one last time before the big typhoon showed up and trashed everything. I tried to buy an inflatable swimming pool from the PX but they were sold out, this little tub was the next best thing I could find around the house.

RC Mario Car

This was actually a birthday present from Sato's sister for Alex on his last birthday. I resurected it by resoldering the antenna to the circuit board (it had been yanked off my small hands) and replacing the batteries. I didn't realize that it would be such a big hit with Nicki. He loves this thing, and he seems to do all right driving it (for a 1 year old).

Our Hawaii Mini-Vacation

I had to go to Honolulu for an exercise planning conference. After it was over, I flew the family out to enjoy a few days of fun on Oahu. We stayed in a hotel down on Waikiki (where all the best restaurants are), but spent most of our time up on the north shore where the beach parks are much nicer and have much less people.
