Christmas Eve In Okinawa

This is the first year where I think Alex fully grasped the concept of Santa Claus and all of the ins and outs and what have yous. In this case we laid out a not for Santa, along with some milk and cookies.

Sato's Friend's Kids

Sato's friend Yuki came to visit Okinawa from mainland Japan with her Mom and Daughter, so we had a bunch of people gather at our place and the kids played in the backyard.

Alex's 4th Birthday Party

Alex turned 4 just the other day. He cracks me up. I can't believe he still can't figure out how to blow out candles. For those who don't know Alex, he's not retarded, he just acts crazy when he gets excited.

Nicki Laughing

Nicki had a pretty rough first 3 months. He cried a lot and always seemed like he was uncomfortable and irritable. At some point during his 4th month he turned into a new baby. He laughs more than Alex every did. However, when he gets pissed off he gets loud and fights back. He's pretty strong for a baby.

Alex's School

Alex was Mario for Halloween. His school had all of the kids wear their costumes to class and they went around trick or treating in the neighborhood. This was the first year that we were able to get him to go trick or treating. He'll wear this same costume around the house and turn into Mario. When he plays Mario he is in full character and gets pissed off if you forget and call him Alex. He also has a Luigi hat and green shirt as well. Anyway, Alex's pre-school had this fund raiser. I was wondering why they were having a fund raiser when we all pay tuition, but whatever. Sato was working there and brought Nicki with her, so Alex and I showed up to eat some food and hang out for awhile. It's a Japanese preschool out in town so Alex is learning some Japanese. The only drawback is that he has already come home mispronouncing some English words. Evidently they're teaching some Jap-English on the side, so I'll be correcting that every night. No big deal I guess. The last part of the video is at a local farm where they arranged for the kids to go out on a Saturday morning and dig up some Okinawan sweet potatoes (beni-imo). These sweet potatoes are purple on the inside and super sweet. Okinawan people typically use them to make deserts. Sato's Mom used the potatoes to make sweet potato tempura. It was pretty damn good.
